Some stuff that was sent my way via the series of tubes:

- New York City Skeptic’s own Massimo Pigliucci is honored by the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry as a notable figure in science and skepticism. Congrats, Massimo!
- It boggles the mind that we are still dealing with the issue of creationism in the science classroom. But the NYTimes is still reporting on the case of Mr. Freshwater, a science teacher who refused to remove a bible from his classroom. Way to go Ohio! Worst quote from the article:
“If he had a Koran on his desk, he’d be fine and no one would say a word to him,” Mr. Matolyak said. “If he had ‘Origin of Species’ on his desk, they would celebrate that.”
- Another You Tube channel to keep an eye on, called Sixty Symbols. Created by the University of Nottingham, they post cute clips describing various scientific symbols. This one is particularly cute for obvious reasons:
- And there is a new Symphony of Science video out. I just can’t resist these! This one is more visually stunning than some of the others.
Yeh, I read that article yesterday; it’s pretty amazing that this isn’t straightforward for many people. And, yes, the guy who compares keeping a bible on your desk in science class with… keeping a science book on your desk in science class.
This summer will mark 85 years since the Scopes trial, and we’re still arguing about it.
Oy.
